Jiyue 07: The Electric Sedan Redefining the Future of Chinese Automobiles

The electric vehicle (EV) landscape welcomes a new competitor poised to revolutionize the market: the Jiyue 07, the result of a collaboration between Baidu and Geely. Recently unveiled at the 2024 Beijing Auto Show, this model stands out for its cutting-edge design and state-of-the-art technology, solidifying China's position as a leader in automotive innovation.

Design: Elegance and Aerodynamics

The Jiyue 07 is a sleek, mid-size fastback that catches attention with its futuristic aesthetics. Featuring an aerodynamic drag coefficient of 0.198 Cd, it includes handleless doors, Y-shaped intelligent headlights, and a panoramic roof, elevating its luxurious appeal. This model, awarded the prestigious iF Design and Red Dot Awards in 2023, embodies a modern vision of sustainable mobility.

Its interior continues the trend of innovation, boasting a 35.6-inch 6K resolution integrated display, a yoke-style steering wheel, and premium materials. These elements combine to offer a minimalist yet functional and immersive experience.

Technology: Intelligence at the Wheel

The Jiyue 07's core lies in its advanced technology. Equipped with Baidu's Apollo system, the car features semi-autonomous driving capabilities using camera-based systems, avoiding lidar sensors. This positions it as a direct competitor to Tesla's Model 3. Its safety and assistance systems include 11 cameras, 12 ultrasonic radars, and 9 millimeter-wave radar sensors, ensuring reliable and advanced driving support.

On the connectivity side, Baidu-developed software enables precise navigation and artificial intelligence-powered features, while Geely’s manufacturing expertise ensures robust performance.

Power and Sustainability

Built on Geely's modular SEA architecture, the Jiyue 07 offers various configurations. The base version delivers 268 hp with a 71.4 kWh battery, while the flagship version achieves 536 hp with a 100 kWh battery. With a range of up to 660 km, it outperforms competitors like Tesla’s Model 3 standard edition.

Jiyue is also expanding its EV infrastructure, providing access to over 350,000 charging stations across 330 cities in China and partnering with companies like NIO and Zeekr to further strengthen its presence.

Competitiveness and Pricing

Priced between RMB 199,900 and RMB 219,900 (approximately $28,000–$31,000 USD), the Jiyue 07 presents a more affordable alternative to international rivals. This strategic pricing aims to democratize advanced EV technology and directly compete with industry giants by offering a sophisticated and cost-effective option.

The Jiyue 07 represents more than just a vehicle; it symbolizes the rise of the Chinese automotive industry and showcases what can be achieved when design, technology, and innovation converge. This model is not just ready to challenge the best in the market but is also setting a new standard in the global EV industry.
